The Cemetery Sexton works seasonally from May through October each year, maintaining the Town's several cemeteries. To reach the Cemetery Sexton, Jim Allen, call 207-955-3907 or leave a message at the Town Office at 207-487-3136.
During the early 2000s, there were multiple restoration projects completed in the cemeteries around town. Hopefully, residents and visitors will take time to wander through these old cemeteries and “visit” with the many founders and settlers of Pittsfield.
Spring cleanup at the cemetery: Removal of seasonal decorations/flowers will be the last weekend of April and may be replaced by the second weekend of May.
Fall cleanup at the cemetery: Removal of seasonal decorations/flowers will be on the third weekend in September and can be replaced by the second week in October.
Please note the following for all cemeteries in Pittsfield: Glass and ceramic as well as white rocks will not be allowed, the exception will be if they are enclosed in a border. Inside the borders are the responsibility of the family, including decorations/grass/flowers/shrubs etc. Any overgrowth of plants/shrubs are the responsibility of the family and must be tended to. At the end of the season any borders that are neglected can be removed and the area will be cleaned by the cemetery workers, unless other arrangements have been made. Any plants/shrubs that encroach on other lots or are neglected will be cut back or removed, unless other arrangements have been made. Any questions, please contact the Town Sexton at 207-955-3907. Thank you
